“Back 2 basic”: Wilkhahn at the 100% Design in Rotterdam

[06-11-2009] Excellent craftsmanship, timeless forms, natural colours and perfectly-integrated technology. Along a “back 2 basic” theme, Wilkhahn will showcase its products at this year’s 100% Design in Rotterdam with manufacturers Gelderland and Kvadrat, as well as importer Eikelenboom (Belux, Luceplan Lighting). From 11 to 13 June 2009, this key Benelux design fair traditionally takes place in the Van Nelle Ontwerpfabriek which also accommodates Wilkhahn's showroom. Wilkhahn will once again place its skills in furnishing different conference and communications spaces at centre stage. The company will also launch the Ceno and Velas ranges, as well as the re-issue of Walter Papst's three-legged chair on the Dutch market.

Visitors will stroll down a red carpet into the showroom which has been specially redesigned for the fair. Unobtrusive natural colours tend to dominate the interiors. Appropriate furnishing solutions display different communications scenarios. Aline skid-base chairs and tables (designed by Andreas Störiko) are appealing solutions for informal discussions. A generous Travis conference table (designed by wiege) demonstrates functionality and flexibility in traditional meeting situations. And the InteracTable lounge combines high-tech with traditional working methods. The monitor integrated in the InteracTable high table acts as a joint workspace for project groups. As part of an Internet network, teams can move images and films on the interactive table top, or exchange other data. Glass partitions and curtains placed in the lounge at the centre guarantee the peace and quiet required to concentrate. The three new products are then presented on a catwalk in the showroom.

Ceno, an upholstered chair: ideal for presentations, meetings and eating together
In the past, formal and informal meetings were held in different rooms, but today both are often in the same place. As a result, superior interior design solutions are required that respond to both demands. Wilkhahn’s upholstered chair Ceno (designed by Läufer + Keichel) shows how easy transforming conference rooms is. Ceno combines the functionality of a stackable conference chair with the look and feel of a dining room chair. Carefully thought-out details, high-quality materials and precise workmanship ensure a pleasant atmosphere during long conferences or at dinner. The comfortable four-legged chair is obtainable with or without armrests.

Lounge chair Velas: total minimalism
The Velas range (designed by Eric Degenhardt) is the ideal choice for informal, semi-public spaces like waiting and reception areas, or lounges. The minimalist metal frame structure and the clear-cut lines on the seat and backrest sections are a reflection of classical modernist lightweight steel furniture. But the principle of a supporting frame with upholstered seat and backrest sections has been interpretated in a new way. The elegant foot section becomes a fluid transition of front legs, side sections and rear horizontal brace, creating an especially informal, but professional look at the same time. The same applies to the seat frame that appears suspended and has a characteristic collar-like upper edge to the backrest.  Thanks to its innovative upholstery in 3D knitting technology, the uncomplicated design fulfils all demands on comfort. A footstool and a matching three-legged side table go with the chair.

Three-legged wooden chair: an icon re-issued
The re-issue of Walter Papst’s three-legged wooden chair will premiere in Rotterdam for the first time. The chair is based on the 1955 original design: a three-legged stool made of wooden parts that are intriguingly interlocked. Walter Papst transformed this age-old concept into an innovative board-type chair that combines clear-cut shapes and lines with first class craftsmanship. In this re-issue of the chair, materials, shapes and proportions perfectly reflect the original. At the same time, the chair leg, seat and backrest connections were enhanced so the chair could be made in solid wood.
Similarly to the original, the three-legged chair is available in an adult and child version.
