Market launch of graceful stacking performer accompanied by German Design Council award

[10-17-2005] 230 range
Design: Andreas Störiko

Tying in well with the market launch, 230 range will receive the DESIGN PLUS prize by the German Design Council on 10 November that is awarded on the occasion of the exhibition, Material Vision 2005, in Frankfurt. The jury’s decision is a mark of distinction for the fascinating combination of minimum material input, maximum transparency and easy handling which characterize this innovative skid base chair. The distinct shape of the seat frame incorporating interlocking rails underscores the approach to design as form following function. It allows neat, extremely compact stacking …

230 range (design: Andreas Störiko): skid base frame and a cantilever seat and back frame form a perfect synthesis that is both comfortable and graceful.

On 230 range, the cantilever seat and back frames in high-performance, fibre glass-reinforced polyamide, covered in resilient polyester material, are mounted on a graceful skid base in bright chromium-plated round steel rod. At the front, the skid base supports the front seat frame and integrates with the backrest frame at the rear. The base and the seat frame thus form a stabile construction with low material dimensions and weight.

Minimum material input
Just three materials (round steel rod, plastic and matching colour fabric) with extremely slender cross-sections create a coherent design that is fascinating due to the curved seat and backrest frames. Form, function and materials merge perfectly and concentrate on essentials.

230 range (design: Andreas Störiko): the elegant curve of the frame and the high transparency of the material make this range the epitome of optical lightness.

Comfort with maximum transparency
The backrest covering in resilient material ensures a high degree of comfort (automatic adjustment to user, air permeable) in combination with the ingeniously simple construction comprising skid base and frame. The transparency of the material preserves the ambience of an interior even in high-density arrangements. Positioned in rows (linking possible), the rear curves of the seat and backrest frames create a lively visual pattern and give 230 range a graceful, organic appearance.

230 range (design Andreas Störiko): elegance and transparency – positioned in rows, the form creates a lively visual pattern.

Easy handling
Featuring low weight (5.1 kg), an easy-grasp backrest and a self-engaging, stackable seat frame, handling in multi-purpose interiors is child’s play: fifteen chairs can be stacked safely, neatly and extremely compactly – yet the stack is only 106 cm high. The elegant design of the seat frame incorporating interlocking rails also provides a practical means of moving the top chair slightly forward to lift it off the stack. The integral inline connector, self-parking out of use, is an optional feature that is attractively designed, simple and intelligent: rotate to open, insert an adjacent chair – that’s all. No separate components or assembly required… A stacking trolley takes up to 25 chairs and allows easy transport through lifts, doors and corridors. From a health and safety angle, a “must-do” investment decision.

230 range (design: Andreas Störiko): easy, compact storage of up to 15 chairs, with each one adding only 20 mm to the height of the stack

Versions
The skid frame is chromium-plated, while the seat and backrest, including optional armrests, are optionally available through-dyed in white, grey or black. The covering always matches the colour of the frame to ensure a coherent appearance. 230 range is therefore at home in a host of different settings: as a modern conference chair at the desk, as a light seminar chair in conference environments or as multi-purpose seating in restaurant areas, lecture halls and event spaces.

230 range is now available.
