The new Wilkhahn office chair – pure simplicity

At Orgatec 2002, Wilkhahn is presenting a new office chair, the Solis range, which bears all the signs of continuing the success story of Wilkhahn office chairs: the perfect synthesis of simple, clear design language, intuitive operation and innovative ergonomics.

Solis (Design: wiege): Solis merges the wide spectrum of demands made on an ergonomically trailblazing office chair in a clear, simple form.

System thinking based on contours, forms and surfaces
Nowadays, the abundance of differently designed, and often too highly styled office chairs contributes to visual chaos in offices, not to mention the inscrutability of many adjustment functions … The Solis range is intended to be a definite counterpoint: contours, surfaces and body consistently follow simple, geometric principles and, at the same, time open up new dimensions of comfort for sitting and operation. This includes the clear division into a technical frame structure and the ergonomic shape of the seat shell that envelops the user’s body, as well as the optical clarity of all functions. The contours, materials and cross sections of the ergonomically shaped seat and backrest shells provide optimal support and a high degree of comfort for any posture and movement. The front and rear view, which generally dominates office chairs, creates a homogenous, geometric surface, which emits visual calm, and support.

Solis (Design: wiege): the simplicity of forms is also reflected in simple operation: sit down, adjust for height and weight, that’s all. Everything else will be taken care of by the seat and backrest shells with innovative automatic synchro-adjustment

Attention to detail can be seen, for example, in the domed, consistently five-star base, the clear, precise forms of the automatic synchro-adjustment or the two adjustment levers with a crank for weight adjustment which can be operated “blind” and which appear to be a homogenous prolongation of the front swivel axis.

Black, through-dyed synthetic components and frame components in high-grade aluminium also project the high quality of this chair in the materials used.

Sit correctly in pure simplicity
The perfect interplay of the ergonomic design of the flexible seat and backrest shells, with the innovative sitting mechanism, ensures top comfort. The heart of the construction is the automatic synchro-adjustment, which its wide apex angle, with an ideal sequence of movement (ratio of 1:1.8). When the user leans back, the seat platform is automatically lowered at the front, thus relieving pressure on thighs. Sit down, adjust for height and weight – that’s all! Solis will take care of everything else itself – and ensure that every user sits correctly from the very beginning.

If you require more adjustment functions, you will find some amazingly simple-to-operate, additional features: armrests that are adjustable in height, width and depth with an integral button and ingenious adjustment intervals, simple, height-adjustable backrests or seat platforms that can be shifted in position, whereby the pelvic wedge automatically stays in the correct position in relation to the backrest.All additional functions can be operated completely intuitively without any levers. The clear, minimalist design is retained in spite of ergonomic perfection.

Besides the basic model, Solis is also available as a standard-height office chair or with a high backrest with integral headrest. Various surface finishes and a wide selection of fabrics and leather provide numerous, individual design options.

Serial production is scheduled to commence from January 2003 on.

High tech with high touch

The Solis F line is characterized by uncompromisingly purist form and an amazingly high degree of comfort. It has been designed for management and representational areas which require a clear commitment to transparency, the future and progress. “F” stands for frame and marks the distinct structures of the seat and backrest, comprising frames covered in stretch material. With Solis F, sitting in “pure simplicity” becomes an impressive experience for all the senses.

Solis F (Design: wiege): the technical elegance of the frame structure is consistently repeated in the design of the seat and backrest frame with stretch material.

The clear, technical design of Solis, reduced to essentials, is also uncompromisingly reflected in the seat and backrest areas of the Solis F line. A transparent, high-performance material is attached to specially constructed aluminium profiles. Two curved braces in die-cast aluminium on both the seat and backrest provide the profiles with taut support to form a distinct frame. The armrests and the headrest also comprise orthogonal aluminium profiles which are visibly attached to the frame structure.This elegance, which is technically precise, consistently linear and with plane surfaces, makes Solis F an aesthetic experience.

Solis F (Design: wiege): the angular aesthetics create a striking contrast to the high degree of comfort achieved due to the stretch material that is used and the automatic synchro-adjustment.

The amazingly high degree of comfort forms a contrast to this refined elegance. The material is stretched over the sides and is therefore highly elastic at the top and the bottom. This allows the backrest to adapt automatically to the individual shape of the user’s body. At the same time, the ergonomically designed frame profiles on the seat provide an active pelvic support and, on the backrest, they provide necessary support in the lumbar region. But above all: the Solis automatic synchro-adjustment, with automatic lowering of the seat, area also combines healthy sitting with sitting quality on the highest level of comfort in this respect too – simply and intuitively.

The armrests and the headrest on Solis F have leather-covered pads as a standard feature.

Solis F is available with either a standard or a high backrest, optionally with a headrest. On request, all models may be fitted with a height-adjustable backrest. A slim, additional cushion, upholstered in high-quality leather, is intended to meet the demand for a high level of prestige.

For the surface finish, the choice is between bright chromium-plated, polished aluminium and coated in the colour silver. Various combination options for the finish of the five-star base, mechanical parts and the frame allow individual coordination with any interior.

Serial production of Solis F is scheduled to commence from January 2003 on.
