Orgatec 2004: DinA range (Design: Udo Schill, Timo Küchler)

[10-18-2004] The fascination of simplicity - “Reduce to the max” is the principle behind the entire DinA range: in line with the Din A paper size, additional formats with the same aesthetic proportions are obtained by halving or doubling the surface. DinA thus provides innovative application and furniture concepts, using just three table formats and two storage unit formats – sitting, low or standing.

Office work is changing: the “administrative machines” of the past are being transformed into places, which focus primarily on communication and cooperation. If terms of reference, processes and team formation undergo dynamic change, then interiors, equipment and furniture have to adapt to such change with maximum versatility. With the DinA range, Wilkhahn offers a furnishing concept that reflects the complexity of modern work environments in an ingeniously simple manner. The art of refining down to the very simplest solution guarantees maximum versatility, service life and utility value.

DinA range (design: Udo Schill, Timo Küchler): The range, comprising tables, Volumina and cabinets is consistently in line with DIN A paper sizes.

One = two = four:
The fascination of 1:2 for rectangular forms even dates back to the ancient Greek philosopher Plato. Such a format has extremely balanced proportions, and halving or doubling the surface, produces rectangles with the same proportions. The three DinA table formats 1/1 (2x DIN A0 = 1680 x 1188 mm),1/2 (DIN A0 =1188 x 840 mm) and 1/4 (DIN A 1 = 840 x 594) are completed by two storage unit formats 1/4 and 1/8 (DIN A2 = 594 x 420 mm). This opens up countless combinations with harmonious cross references, allowing full scope for spontaneous reconfiguration, without impairing the quality of existing interior design.

DinA range (design: Udo Schill, Timo Küchler): The functional heights of low, sitting and standing permit completely new space and application concepts.

Innovative applications:
With three functional heights (low, sitting, standing), DinA opens up completely new furnishing and application possibilities. For example, a low 1/2 table, positioned adjacent to a large table in sitting height, can serve as a practical storage surface, or, add a cushion to transform it into a comfortable, informal seat. This replaces a conference chair and creates a new quality of communication at the workplace. The Volumina and cabinets are as highly versatile: depending on height and size, they can extend work surfaces, function as a meeting point, space dividers or a stool.

DinA range (design: Udo Schill, Timo Küchler)The wood, which is mitre jointed, and the clear form give the range a monolithic character that merges perfectly with any interior.

Reduce to the max:
The art of reducing to essentials is also reflected in the high quality of materials, workmanship and innovative details. The wood, which is through-dyed in the colour black-grey and mitre jointed, gives the tables, Volumina and cabinets a strong, monolithic character. Drawers that open with finger pressure, moulded accessories trays, stainless steel runners for suspended file drawers, laptop shelves and storage nets fascinate with perfection and the intelligence of simplicity. The concentrated design allows DinA to be used for versatile applications ranging from office and conference environments to sales and customer service areas, and even a home setting. It is therefore highly suitable as an image range for various interior design concepts.

Addition to range: cabinets
New elements – cabinets – provide storage space for files and books. These cabinets are in 1/8 format and have lockable doors. They are also available in the three functional heights of low (1 binder height), sitting (2 binder heights) and standing (3 binder heights). Shelves in sheet steel, coated silver with a satin finish, allow individual configuration of internal storage heights.

DinA is already available.
